Four Summers

You were mine for four long summers

We were like wild flowers, like the changing tides.

We dreamt of vanilla skies and chocolate mint popsicles;

Rode rusty bicycles to watch every summer dusk by the sea.

I remember the nights we walked home;

How I faltered each time we kissed at dimly-lit lamp posts,

How we made promises without saying any words.

We were in love, madly,

Like distant stars waiting for the storm.

You were mine for long summers;

Each kiss felt like the first drop of rain in May,

Each promise like a prayer.

I loved you for all it was worth

You told me you loved me on a cold April day –

For three summers it was true

But then you left on the fourth.

another summer will come

By the sea

He kissed her by the sea,

Took her heart away;

With a promise to return,

By her side, he’ll stay.

In every shore,

He longed for her;

In every dream,

He dreamed of her.

He wanted the solitude,

To find freedom on the seas;

Only then he realized

How lonely it was to be free.
